Nivegy valley

The legend tells that this area was populated since the time the ancient Hungarians occupied this land. Leader Buda settled down on the northerrn hillside. That village is called nowdays Óbudavár.

Nivegy-völgyThis leader had 3 sons, István, Jakab and Antal. When they grow up their father took them to the top of the Halom mountain. They had to shoot an arrow from that point to 3 different directions. Where the arrows landed, each boy could establish their own settlement. So established István – Csicsa – the village of Balatoncsicsó, Jakab the village of Szentjakabfa and Antal the village of Szentantalfa.

If we go in direction of the balaton lake here comes the villages. First there is Tagyon and at the lake Zánka. All towns population is under 1000 (Zánka is about 980). Óbudavár is one of the smallest village in Hungary with 71 people.

Szent Balázs templomromThe villages in the valley were mentioned first in certificates from the 12th century but they were mentioned as the romans favourite place where they grow grape even before.
It is special that there are many churches in the area. Each village has got sometimes 2 or even 3 which testify about the old glory days.
On the Balázs mountain is located the Puszta church ruin from the 13th century. This is just ruin now but there is a service once in each year on the Balázs day.

Gergely Borház ültetvényWe have grape fileds on Hegyestű, Tagyon mountain, Buda valley, Határ hill and on the Saint Balázs mountain. These fileds are separated sometimes few kilometers far from each other. The importance of the different locations is that the same grape can make totally differnt taste of wine at the different terroirs.
